Directorate of Labour and Employment

The Directorate of Labour and Employment is a subset of the professional wing with a broad mandate that seeks to address issues bordering on general Labour Administration.

  • Coordinate, formulate, review and implement Labour and employment policies and regulations to ensure compliance with local and international standards
  • Facilitate the registration and monitoring of Trade union activities to ensure that they operate within the law
  • Implement the administrative process for the issuance of work permit to foreigners in line with employment regulations
  • Coordinate overseas employment for sierra Leoneans and monitor their safety and well being
  • Develop database on employment statistics for research, planning and decision making process
  • Facilitate the resolution of Labour disputes to prevent industrial unrest.
  • Promote industrial peace and harmony
  • Elimination of the worst forms of Child Labour
  • Registration of Job seekers;
  • Vocational/ Career Guidance and Counseling
  • Develop Labour Market Information System
