The ICT Unit at the Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security (MELSS) in Sierra Leone plays a crucial role in the ministry’s digital operations. It has two arms; the Information and Communication arm and the Technological arm.
The unit’s primary task is to leverage Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and innovations to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency of labour-related services and Social Security programs. It manages and maintains the ministry’s digital infrastructure, such as networks, systems, and databases, to ensure uninterrupted operations and protect sensitive data. Moreover, it leads the development and implementation of ICT policies, strategies, and initiatives aligned with MELSS’s objectives and national ICT frameworks.
The ICT Unit collaborates closely with other departments and external stakeholders to identify ICT needs, prioritize digital initiatives, and implement tailored technological solutions to meet the ministry’s requirements. It offers technical expertise, guidance, and support to ensure the integration and utilization of ICT tools across various functions within MELSS. Additionally, the unit facilitates capacity-building initiatives and training programs to empower staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to leverage ICT effectively in their roles.
The ICT Unit’s mission is to modernize and streamline labour-related processes, enhance data management and analysis capabilities, and promote visibility, greater transparency and accountability in service delivery and bridging the gap between the Ministry and its publics. By utilizing the power of ICT, MELSS aims to improve its responsiveness to the needs of citizens, foster inclusive growth, and contribute to Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development.
